Sangalaki, Maratua & Kakaban 6 night itinerary
The trip starts and finishes in Berau in Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) and will dive the Derawan Islands of Sangalaki, Maratua and Kakaban. The trip will also take you to the Jelly Fish Lake at Kakaban, a beach to watch baby Turtles hatching and the local fishing Bagans at Talisayan in search of Whale Sharks!

The islands of Sangalaki, Maratua and Kakaban, collectively known as the Derawan Islands, are located off the east coast of Kalimantan (the Indonesian part Borneo). These islands offer remote, uncrowded diving with the potential for plenty of ‘Big Fish’ sightings. Sangalaki is famous for large aggregations of Manta Rays who use the island’s colourful reefs as a cleaning and breeding ground. Kakaban has a stunning fresh water Jelly Fish Lake fringed by virgin mangrove forest and sheer drop offs and walls that attract schools of Trevally and Barracuda along with the possibility of Hammerheads, Grey Reef Sharks and Oceanic Blacktip Sharks.

Maratua is one of the most action filled destinations in the region. The walls that surround Maratua Island offer encounters with massive schools of Barracuda, hunting Trevally and Thresher Sharks! The local fishing Bagans at Talisayan provide the best place in the area in which to dive with awe inspiring Whale Sharks!
